Cuz Horne is really Charles Horne who picked up the nickname Cuz as a young man in his early teens. It has stuck with him for 60 years, 35 of which were spent in some area of education as a Teacher, Coach, Principal or Supervisor of many various areas of education.  Nineteen of those years were spent primarily as Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance with additional duties as Administrator of a guidance program.  Cuz also supervised Special Education, the District nutrition program, Transportation and Janitorial supplies purchasing; in fact, Cu has held every job in the Franklin Parish School District except three, and that of Superintendent of schools.  He took time out in the middle of his career to start a private school and worked as the Administrator of it for a year and a half to get it started right.  During the first 15 years of his career, (in order to be able to afford to teach school) he often held a second job. Those second jobs included killing termites, painting, driving eighteen wheelers, and always raising a good garden.  When the offer to work in the Central Office for the same amount of pay came his way, he naturally accepted the position.

In his own words, Cuz says:  “Mama and I have six children, eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.  Charles Birthday is 7-30-30 (79), Dessie or Mama’s Birthday is 2-20-34.  Dessie (Mama) graduated from Crowville High School in 1953 and we got married in 1954 after playing in the Hawsey Tournament and was married that night by Rev. LaPrarie the Free Methodist Minister. We have the distinction of having three children all the same age for about 2 weeks out of each year.  When the oldest was eleven months and twenty days old twin boys came along.  We all got together on our fiftieth anniversary and what a ball we had.

Of course I finished high school at dear old Ogden High in 1948 and started to Louisiana College, where I got my Bachelors degree. Then furthered my education and received a Masters at Northeast, along with about 60 hours above the Masters Degree at N.L.U.  Nothing to brag about: just thought I would mention it in passing.  There is no telling how many educational and other type meetings I attended, but that is enough about that.
