PEOPLE AND THE MEDIA 8-24-07

Unfortunately many people do not pay much attention to any media except that which they create. Example, Blogs. Newspaper circulation is down, National Network news viewer ship is down, and Fox Cable news is the only National News Cable 24 hour outlet that has a strong list of viewers. Talk radio, with conservative minded listeners has a popular following and a lot of that is because people can call in to most of the shows and a lot of the listeners are traveling or retired people. People are too busy to read the newspaper and most of their news is not from local reporters but AP and other wire services. In past years there was a lot of reporting in outlying communities that caused people to read the paper. Now they read it in parts. Some read the sports and some the comics while others read it out of habit. Why are people so unconcerned about the happenings in the world? Some just don’t have time. Both parent’s are working and have a long drive time to get to and from work. Others say it is all bull and it’s the same old thing over and over. Yet people complain about those crooks that are in government at all levels of government. Folks, those people were put there by the very ones doing the complaining. The voter’s (citizen’s) of this country will vote, usually after getting a quick look at some political ad or advice from a friend. More importantly, if you vote only from some media outlet you are letting them make the vote for you. Remember the media has always had a powerful influence over the way voters vote. That needs to stop now. More importantly the citizens of this country need to vote. We need to get busy and let the media know they will no longer make choices for us at the polls. Rather they should help the people by not allowing but about 60 days for “politicking” activities by the candidates and about a week for the people to have time to vote. That is just the opposite of what the media and the candidates want. But whatever the situation go vote.
