While writing about the baseball team I thought of other interesting happenings to various adults and students in beloved Liddieville. I will not name names that might embarrass folks, sometime just a hint at the name so if they want to retell it to their grandchildren or children and others.
Bud Johnston and I were standing in front of Dad’s store and two of our young boys were riding their bikes “up” the road. They were riding on the same side as oncoming traffic.(There was very little of any kind of automobile traffic then going up or down the road. Coming from up the road Mr. Bob Adams was easing along in his car. The boys did not move their bikes to the other side and Mr. Bob just kept coming at maybe twenty miles per hour. Bud told me to look, “it looked like Uncle Bob was going to run into the Free Methodist Pastor’s son and a youngster whose last name began with “B”. About that time they ran into each other, both boys flying through the air and landed on the road behind the car. Uncle Bob got out and the boys got up (not hurt) and Uncle Bob said, “ I started to blow my horn but it was too late we had done hit”.
