Banking Buddies True or False Story

This story was told to me as being true.  But I doubt if it true.  You can make up your own mind, but it is interesting and pretty well describes the thinking of some people.  It goes thusly.  A man and woman both had pretty high paying jobs where they worked.  They went to a convention and fell in love.  They decided to save up as much money and steal as much as they could from the bank until they thought they were about to be caught.  They bought a large enough boat to get them from Florida where they worked to a South Sea Island they knew about that had all the comforts of home.  They stocked the boat and hid it in a parking space under false names.  One day the President and other top of the line employees wee summoned to a meeting and they found out the bank was missing sever hundred thousand dollars and the bank was calling in the state banking officials.  The two knew this meant the president probably had an idea who was guilty.  At noon the two hurried to their boat and climbed aboard and fled to their secret hiding place on their very own Island of Love.  Several weeks passed and they were sailing out on the water and the radio announced a storm was on its way.  The outboard motor would not start and they were not very good sailors and got caught up in the storm.  The bank had put out their pictures to all law enforcement group in the area, but they were not in the least bit afraid of getting caught because it had been so long and if the boat were blown up on a beach they would just rent one or buy one and no one would know the better (or worse of it).  When the storm was over they were huddled down below and when they came up their boat was sitting in the lobby of a Police station. Tough luck, their pictures were on the wall and they were caught on the spot.  They later found out that on the same day they ran off, their mates had left them that morning.  Using one of the state laws that stated, after missing a year, one was considered dead, so their mates got all their property.
