What to do about Prison Problem 9/28/07

Prison overcrowding, and the cost of keeping prisoners is a real problem facing taxpayers in this country.  There are solutions but they would not be endorsed by politicians and various lobbying groups in the country.

There are countless islands in the South Pacific that could house prisoners that were sentenced for five year to lifetime sentences. Many of these Islands have fresh water and have no humans living on them but do have sharks and other men eating fish and sea animals a plenty .   Guarding cost would be minimal.  Just a few boats so for the prisoners and employees food and other necessary supplies. Housing and other necessary buildings could be built at a very reasonable cost  Any flying insects could be controlled by screen netting, sticky traps suspended about the area, and a small amounts of insect spray.

Labor would work much like oil well workers with staggered blocks of hour on and off. The weather would be fine and there are hundreds of islands with water and wildlife on them and prisoners could work building things.  The Women would be placed on certain Island’s and the men on others.  If behavior allowed it a social between the males and females such as a dance and similar function cold be arrange on neutral Islands.

Of course this simple plan will never be used because there is too much money to be made in prisons.  It would be simple and one of the many ways taxes could be reduced and kept by the individual taxpayer to hell give crooks training and a good job, but the big boys would not get their unfair share.
