NATIONAL SERVICE 9/24/07

Great debate is beginning during this National Election Cycle about some form of National Service to our country. The real debate of course is what kind of service should be available and should it be made mandatory. The crying rich and elite rich do not want their Sons and Daughters even close to some type of military training. All kinds will not be listed here because it would take up to much space, but a few are, voluntary infrastructure on roads, tutoring, and similar work with not much danger and about a five thousand bond bought for each baby when it was born to be given plus interest back to the baby when it finished voluntary service.

Why not let the youngster choose the type service? Give all Graduating Senior’s or those reaching Graduation age including dropouts in high school, a two year service time to be active in the country’s service. Maybe the first 3 or 6 months could be military type training with many other types as tutoring, cleaning up ditches, work around and help in Hospital emergency rooms and similar activities could be chosen by the student to finish training. Those entering without graduating would be placed in adult education until she or he graduated then finish the two years. Each would be paid at least the minimum wage and furnished a stipend for rent and clothes with no help from others allowed. A sum of money to about half pay for an average cost of training in a College or trade school after the four years was up would be the graduation diploma. All would participate in the program. All means all, including the disabled. There is something for every body to do. Doctors would be required to provide on site assistance in case of illness. Specialist in each field could work out the details, but no one would be excused. Runaways and protestors would be dealt with if they broke the law. If some one wanted to leave America because they were going and not help the home folks let them go with our blessing but with a promise they could visit, but leaving meant giving up citizenship.

The military draft should be started from this group. A certain percent of each class would be drafted and serve at least two years. Some countries have draft and all their citizens serve a certain number of years. After serving the two years some might decide to join the military, others night decide to become a teacher, a doctor, electrician, at least they would have time to get an idea of what they wished to do. Upon finishing all would get some good from being disciplined a couple of years and give them time to get the feel of making a living by having to work and the overall good of being with other people.
