GOVERNMENT
The word
“education” is not mentioned in the constitution of the United States of America. The Tenth Amendment states “the
powers not delegated to the United
States of America nor prohibited by it to the
States are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” How
can the Federal Government give billions to education? Will some one please
explain this for me? More about this in a later note
To get closer
to home I was reflecting one day about ole Beouf River and the mess the Corps of
Engineers has made of it. Soon
after the First World War the government told the people that if they could Dredge it out and straighten it up a bit the flood water
would get off the land quicker and they could plant their crops quicker and get
a better growing season. The old
folks told the young farmers that was wrong. The water would still come down the
Ouachita River Floodway back out like it always had because there was no outlet
below. The old farmers also
liked that topsoil left when the water went down leaving a good layer of
fertilized soil. The old farmers
were right, a great fishing river as well as big creek
were turned into a couple of bio ditched that good for really nothing.
