ETHICS?

The fabulous Louisiana Legislature is now in session concerning
ETHICS.  I wonder if they know the meaning of the word.  Do they know where the word came from?  Well here goes. How to behave toward oneself and toward other individuals is a matter of choices: whether to be friendly or unfriendly, whether to tell the truth or lie, whether to be generous or greedy. Whether to study questions to pass an exam, or to spend valuable time watching television and cheat to pass the exam.  These and all other questions about how people act toward themselves and one another is dealt with in a field of study called ethics. Anther name for ethics is morality.  One word is derived from the Greek word ethos, meaning “character” and the other from the Latin word mores, meaning “custom”. That’s why it is going to be hard if not impossible to pass a meaningful ethic bill in the Louisiana Legislature that is enforceable. Already loopholes are being found and a common idiot should know that we have a government divided into three parts with the State Supreme Court to Judge Controversy.  The Legislature in all its wisdom makes a law the Judges don’t like and the Supreme Court can rule it unconstitutional for the “good” of the people and there goes that law. Aristotle defined ethics “as a true and reasoned state of capacity to act with regard to the things that or good or bad for man”. We get things that are good or bad for man from the old and new testaments of the Holy Bible and name or term it Jewish Christian Ethics.

Today with the Nation only a little over two hundred years old, look around and what do you see.  You see a Nation that is trying its best to fulfill those people’s predictions that said this Nation could last because people cannot govern themselves in a democratic form of government.  Instead of living with standards of Jewish Christian ethics we have gradually left those standards and tried to let each person or group of persons and are letting them set their own standards to live by.  Religious freedom in the Constitution only means that all religious groups are free to practice their own ethical standards to live by.  There is not constitutional a guarantee that we would let all religions to set up their own ethical standards to live by.

A person that chews tobacco or dips snuff should swallow a small amount of the amber.  It’s a guarantee not to ever have worms.  You MAY have cancer. At least there is a choice.
