CHANGE IN GOVERNMENT?

Every person seeking the office of Governor that I can remember ran on the theme of change in the way the State would be run and that it would be run for the benefit of the taxpayers.  Well every person that lives in the State is a taxpayer either directly or indirectly.  Even a child living at home is a taxpayer indirectly and its parent is directly a taxpayer, usually directly in some manner. I do not remember Huey Long as I was born in 1930.  But evidently His time was a big change time in the State.  I do remember the man I consider the one making the biggest changes in the State and that was Edwards.  His changes did more harm to the State in my judgment as any Governor during my 77.6 years as a citizen of the State of Louisiana.  Knowing that if He could get certain blocks of votes He began to court Religious groups, racial groups, political groups, an example being School Boards by assuring them they would all run at the same time rather than in staggered terms every two years, and not having the Legislative Auditors Audit the School Boards Bookkeeping but rather Boards could hire any the wished. Sheriffs were courted in such ways that they in reality can do just about any thing they want that is legal and stretch that a bit. But the biggest idea Edwards drummed into people was the State needed a new Constitution and that and maybe a little fudging at some Election Sites He won by a few votes.  I must be right about Him not being a Good Governor that changed the State for the good because He is in a Federal Prison.

All politicians, not just Governors do some well. Some, if they have the say, do no harm.  But real change must start with the voters.  They must have the final judgment in doing what the people want and they cannot do it by staying away from the voting booth. In the late Eighteen Eighties with communications not even close to the present, The Nation turned out the President when seeking reelection and 80% of congress.  People can have the final say about how things are run from the Nation down to the smallest elective office when they decide to do it.  The most important thing is to VOTE.
