CLASS FEES AT SCHOOL

When I was a student and later a Principal we never had class fees. The reason was simple, the schools were all operated on a formula from the state and the local school board was to include any required local expenses to be paid by the local school.  However some Principals would allow some small fees to get started and the fees got larger and larger.  The newspaper had an article about class fees a few days ago and the City System did what Franklin Parish did a few years ago.  The only difference was the City System kept their word and Franklin Parish did not.  I know because I was working in Franklin Parish at the time and helped pass the tax with the “no Class Fee” promise.  The very next year the School Board did not send the schools any funds and therefore the teachers kept having class fees. School Board members are like all politicians they either have short memories or do not wish to know what ordinances have been passed before they took office. It used to be that a Superintendent read the minute book when He took office so he could give good advise to Board Members but very few even know where the minute books are kept and certainly do not know any thing about Louisiana School Law.
